With finance classes, I realized that I was buying extra things for my family's snacks, I made the change and I have been able to start saving almost $ 200 a month.
Now I know that I can learn English and continue advancing until I get to revalidate my career here in the United States.
With the Soul Healing course, I realized that I had to make changes and I already started making some calls to fix unfinished business.
Now I communicate more with my clients, they understand me better and my business has grown.
This project was born from the initiative of the Austin Presbyterian Seminary with the financial support of Lilly Endowment, Inc. One day our founder accepted an invitation to participate in the initiative of the Project Colectivo 787, which was looking for leaders to create something that would support young adults . The AGS idea came true after the following events.
During the summer of 2018, we observed that some of our graduates from our local high school in 2016, who were outstanding students, had not yet started their higher education and were only working the average 9 to 5 job. They encountered barriers to obtaining a higher education due to the lack of knowledge of the registration process, the cost of their studies, among others.
Taking into account this information, Jimena Martinez, the founder developed the AGS program that provides a tutoring plan for young adults who need help in any of the following areas: driver's license, education (certification, trade, higher education of 2 or 4 years), job search, and finances.
As we progressed in our program, we realized that our Hispanic community in the region does not have a formal English school, likewise we found that the young people most willing for the project of restarting their life were precisely those who did not have the facility to speak the English language, so finally in March 2021 we reinitiated what today we call in Spanish "A Good Beginning", as a comprehensive school for all ages and where ESL is the star program.
Our goal is to see that each participant has SUCCESS personally, in their family and enjoy a full and happy life.
Jimena is originally from Cali Colombia. She obtained a degree in Accounting, at the University Santiago de Cali. She has long working experience for more than 20 years in the Banking, Accounting, and Administrative areas. Since the year 2007, she was the founder of the non-profit Organization called School of Personal Improvement; this was an organization created for adults where they taught knowledge in the English language, computation and worked in improving the Self-esteem. Jimena is currently involved in various educational activities, and she is doing several training courses in Personal development, the health of the soul, and raising leaders. Jimena, along with her husband, is passionate about showing God's love to people, providing their services to the community.
